Sarah who?

Sarah who?

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin may be a newcomer to the national political scene, but wasn't Obama newcomer not too long ago?

While voters may today be asking "Sarah who?" they will soon get to know this woman as Mrs. All-American.

She's a tremendously creative selection. While many of politicos have followed her and admired her as a pro-life reformer who has worked to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in government. She is a crusader for families and for Americans.

Will she attract women voters? Will she attract Clinton supporters? Only time will tell. But most important, she presents a stark contrast to the Democratic ticket. She is a departure from the political norm. She represents change.

Folks won't be asking "Sarah who?" for long!

No bibles at some Hyatt hotels, thanks to Obama's cmpgn finance manager

It has been reported that Hyatt hotels has removed the bibles from their hotel rooms, but not all Hyatts have done so.

I received a report that they have at the Chicago Hyatt Regency. The individual making that claim said he had asked staff and it was a very rehearsed corporate answer, "Some of our guest are uncomfortable with a bible in the room"!

Who owns Hyatt hotels? She's work $1.8 billion and is the campaign finance manager for Obama...Penny Pritzker of Chicago. Her office is over on 1 North Wacker, the home of Hyatt headquarters. Bloggers are abuzz with her having been at the eipcenter of the subprime loan catastrophy - http://gdaeman.blogspot.com/2008/02/who-is-penny-pritzker-and-why-is-she.html

The Hyatt Regency in Austin reportedly has bibles in their rooms. I called to check, and it appeared that I wasn't the first to have done so.

Obama's visit from a soldier's perspective

Hello everyone,

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened.

He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.

As the Soldiers were lined up to shake his hand, he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheer leaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point... I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,

CPT Jeffrey S. Porter

Battle Captain

TF Wasatch

American Soldier

This deserves to be said, and to be told -- Barak Obama would be no Commander in Chief. He would dismantle the defense system President Reagan and Congress built, the defense system which helped "tear down that wall" which Obama referenced this week in his showboat trip. Even with the major network anchors in tow, we aren't hearing about the trip from the soldier's perspective. We need to say "thanks" to the men and women who are fighting for freedom, whether you agree with the war or not. Obama's failing to shake their hands and say "thanks" is disgraceful.

Government goes to those who show up

Are your property tax bills too high? Protest!

Is your federal income tax bill consuming your family's prosperity? Call your Congressman and Senator and let them know you want taxes cut.

Does government tax, spend and regulate too much? Remember this: government goes to those who show up. Too often, it is those who want something from government who are pounding those marble halls of the state capitol and the US capitol, of city hall and the county commissioner's court. You need to elect officials who will work for the taxpayer -- and you need to call them often so they don't forget who sent them to office.

If you are feeling like you don't know enough about things to call an elected official -- join an organization like Americans for Prosperity (www.AmericansForProsperity or www.AFPTX.org) which will keep you up to date on pocketbook issues and how you can make a difference.

Remember -- the arc was built by amateurs while the Titanic was built by professionals.

Government goes to those of us who show up -- it is our government. Get involved!

West Texas standard

I’m a West Texas girl and I remember when crude oil was at $20 a barrel.

Let me explain. First, my father had a small oil field equipment company. He owned the company, but he spent his days in the oil fields transporting parts and working with his customers – the drillers.

Second, the West Texas price of crude oil is the standard.

I may be dating myself, but I remember the rejoicing in West Texas (and my household) when crude oil reached $20/barrel. Ok, that was in the mid-70’s.

Today it is reaching $120/barrel and headed higher. Why?

It’s safe to say most Americans want us to be less dependent on foreign oil. We have reserves in this country – off our coasts and in ANWR. Why aren’t we drilling?

Radical environmental alarmists are standing between consumers and more affordable energy. It’s time we just say no to these policies, and proceed to claim the energy reserves we have available to us while we also look to market-based energy conservation and alternative energy resources.

Check out the price of oil in West Texas here:

Whose pastor says G__ damn America?

Rev. Wright is wrong.

As a mother, I have always said we are defined by who we associate with.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy has become a divisive issue. Is Sen. Obama guilty by association with Rev. Wright?

I went to church today and tried to imagine a pastor at Gateway Church in Austin ever saying G__ d___ America, and I just could not envision it.

None of my former pastors, and I’ve lived in six cities, would have said G D America, in our out of context. And if they had, they would be a former pastor and a former church. The last I would see of that church would be in my rear view mirror. Period.

In what context is damning your country appropriate? And where, particularly in church, would any patriotic American (or Christian) ask God to do the damning.

Wright is wrong and we deserve a President who has the judgment to determine who is appropriate to associate with. (Who encourages their kids to hang out with thugs? Hey, we are defined by who we choose to associate with.)

If you're running for President and aren’t going to wear a flag pin, you are subject to scrutiny. Is Sen. Obama proud to be an American?

Whether his wife is proud to be an American (for the first, or 20th time in her adult life) or not is another issue.

This is about judgment and leadership and whether the junior Senator from Illinois is ready to lead the free world, and to represent America and put Americans first.

I’m not convinced.

I am convinced that I don't want a President who chose a pastor who says God d___ America.

Gov Perry again?

Gov. Rick Perry has opened the door to his possible running again in 2010. That pronouncement (it was not an announcement) brought the Left to the smelling salts.

If he is so unpopular (his adversaries consider him the 38% governor), why the fear?

Is this reason for alarm? Or are elected officials considering another run more accountable to the taxpayers?

Some Texans have reason to oppose some of the Governor's policies, but all in all, Gov. Perry has been a taxpayer advocate. Ok, I'll admit my beef -- we don't need the state in an arms race to attempt to cure cancer. I want a cure to cancer, but don't think the State of Texas is going to get us there -- no matter how deep they dig into my pocket.

But let's get real. Gov. Perry is a superstar among the conservatives across the country. What are our alternatives? We may end up with two cheerleaders running for Governor of Texas on the Republican ticket. Let the games begin!

ARE THERE WHITE KIDS AT YOUR SCHOOL?

"Are there any white kids at your school?" -- an interesting article written by an LA teacher. She points out the hypocrisy of legislators – like TX State Sen. Royce West – who vote against school choice plans, but send their children to public schools.

Interestingly, Sen. West actually works as attorney whose firm handles delinquent debt collection for public schools, so his livelihood is tied to public schools, but he doesn’t want to put his children in those schools, and he doesn’t want to provide parents without his significant financial resources the ability to send their children to the school of their choice.

Let's sue this parent, and BTW, how's my divorce proceeding?

Is it poor judgement or abuse of power when a school superintendent uses the school district law firm to prepare her divorce papers, at the same time she has recommended the school board increase the contract with the law firm.

The Galveston Daily News has come up with a shocking example of the good old boy system in their school district. It involves bad legal advise and poor judgment. That’s a dangerous combination for a law firm serving Galveston ISD – or more likely, serving the Superintendent. This is the same law firm which advised the District to sue an AFP member for comments posted on her blog about the District.

The attorney for the school district said, “We do these things for clients. We do things for people all the time through the different school communities. We’ve gotten board members out of dog-bite cases and represented people’s children who get in trouble and need assistance.”

WOW! So the District’s law firm is actually a go-to-firm for folks who hire them and determine the size of their contract. Is this what those expensive contracts with school district law firms are for?

Read the story here: http://galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=f6468b8626ecb067 Is this what can be overheard outside the Superitendent's office when she is talking to the school distrcti law firm?: "Let's sue this parent, and BTW, how's my divorce proceeding?" "I'll ask the board to increase your contract. You're doing such great work for me."

MORE EDUCATION FOR OUR MONEY

More education for our dollars, not more dollars for education

$180,000 salary

$1,000 a month car allowance

$20,000 signing bonus

Perks for a CEO?

Try some Central Texas School Superintendents”

This is the promo for an investigative news report airing on CBS KEYE-TV. Award-winning investigative reporter Nanci Wilson contacted me and asked for my on-camera reaction to the research she had compiled on how Austin area school districts spend tax dollars.

The CBS News investigative report is slated to aire Monday, Feb. 25 and Wednesday, Feb. 27. The link for KEYE-TV’s investigative reports: http://www.keyetv.com/content/news/investigates/default.aspx

The promo quotes me several times, expressing my outrage that taxpayer dollars are being misspent and some expenditures hidden from taxpayers. The promo also provides a glimpse of an interview with a very defiant Austin Superintendent.

Background: AFP launched a campaign “More education for our dollars” to get more education dollars directed to the classroom, when three years ago we traveled the state with a ruler with “How Does Your School District Measure Up?” and a link to the Comptroller’s web site and the School District Watch List. The data reveals that most districts have one non-teaching staff for each teacher, only 50% of the education dollars are spent in the classroom and most school districts are rated as “acceptable” – this is not acceptable to most taxpayers.

Update: Comptroller Susan Combs changed the listing to be called “School District Listing” and has now taken the listing off her new website, though the information is still available. AFP has worked with the Texas Education Agency to get the information posted there – http://www.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/snapshot/2006/district.srch.html and the information is still at: http://www3.cpa.state.tx.us/districts.nsf, though not visible on the Comptroller’s website. Comptroller Combs said that she no longer has the responsibility to do the school district audits. True, but the funding to do that project didn’t get withdrawn.

Stay tuned -- I'll keep you posted as the sparks fly when the powerful CBS-TV Affiliate reveals just how our education tax dollars are being spent.

According to the Houston Chronicle, in 2006, the HISD superintendent was making over $300,000 base salary, and HC cited information provided by education associations:

School Superintendent John Trice electioneering

Alvord ISD Superintendent John Trice and Larry Wilson (Assistant Secretary of the School Board) appear to have lost their minds, and should soon lose their jobs. They are using their positions to electioneer.

These nitwits have sent a letter to “Fellow Educators and School Employees” which all but threatens school district employees to vote for State Rep Dist 61 candidate Joe Tison.

This letter begins with, “We assume your family, health and livelihood are most important to you.” (Duh!)

“With confidence, we endorse Joe (Tison) and do ask your support and vote. As career educators, public schools are our 1st priority and primary reason to support Joe.” (And here we thought the family and health were priorities!)

Even superintendents should do their homework. Several items in the letter are blatantly false, such as Rep. King’s support for elimination of the Texas Infrastructure Fund (TIF) was a big loss to school districts.*

There was nothing subtle about the letter:

“…we can elect the candidate of our choice…….if we all vote!”

The letter goes on to say “We can win with Joe Tison in the primary and general election if….
1. Every school employee and their family members support and vote for Joe.
2. Every school employee tells other family members & friends why they should support/vote for Joe. Ask each of these to tell three others
3. Some employees participate in a campaign strategy meeting (inform Mr. Trice)
– This is the Superintendent!!!
4. Employees will display a yard sign supporting Joe Tison. You can contact Mr. Trice or Mr. Wilson at 427-8711 for a sign.
5. Go to the polls for early voting. Employees could group together and go vote.”

The letter ends with a basic civics lesson:

“Important to remember:
1. Please vote in the Republican Primary…
2. The candidate receiving the majority of votes wins the primary and their name will be listed on the General Election Ballot in November.
3. Registered voters can vote for any party’s candidate in the General Election.”

“You have our thanks and respect.

John Trice Larry Wilson”
(Letter is signed by each)

Tison was reported early in his campaign as “currently looking for a political consultant. In the meantime, he is relying on the Texas Parent PAC.” We don’t know who is advising him, but clearly no one with any sense is advising the Alvord school officials.

Friends, my bet is that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama won’t be any too happy that these school district employees are being encouraged to vote in the Republican primary.

And I anticipate that these school officials broke a myriad of laws, and most certainly abused his position of authority.

But it isn’t our job to prosecute them, but to call public attention to their shenanigans and to call for a public outcry against public school officials using their position to influence elections.

UPDATE: A call to Supt Trice at 5:07 pm today went into his voice mail. He was likely out campaigning for Joe Tison.
